Fun-filled February planned at St. Louis Region Missouri state parks and historic sites

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – If the winter weather has kept you inside, plan now to check out some of these fun activities planned for Missouri state parks and historic sites in the St. Louis area.

 

  • Thursdays, Feb. 1, 15, 29: Toddler Thursday at Mastodon State Historic Site
    Come learn, create and play at Mastodon State Historic Site. The Toddler Thursday programs are designed for toddlers and their grown-ups. Each Toddler Thursday focuses on a different topic and includes activities and a craft. These programs are free and take place in the museum auditorium. Registration is appreciated and can be submitted by visiting usedirect.com/MSPWeb/Default.aspxand using the “Choose Date” box to find the listing.   • Saturday, Feb. 10:Tweets for Sweets at Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park
    Join the team at Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park as they celebrate National Bird Feeding Month by creating treats for their migratory winter bird friends. Participants will make different types of feeders, from pinecone suet feeders to recycled bird feeders. Meet at the visitor center at 10 a.m. Please register online by visiting usedirect.com/MSPWeb/Default.aspxand using the “Choose Date” box to find the listing.   • Monday, Feb. 12: Homeschool Hour: Geology – Rocks and Soil at Mastodon State Historic SiteCalling all homeschoolers! Mastodon State Historic Site is hosting Homeschool Hours to serve the local homeschool communities. Each month, homeschoolers of all ages can join in the fun, educational activities focused on selected park topics. There will be a morning session from 10-11 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1-2 p.m. Registration is required, and space is limited, to register, visit visiting usedirect.com/MSPWeb/Default.aspx and use the “Choose Date” menu to choose your selected date and time. Adults must remain with their children during the program. Each program’s lesson plan is available one week prior to the program and can be requested by emailing emily.lange@dnr.mo.gov.   • Friday, Feb. 16: Night at the Museum at Mastodon State Historic Site
    Starting at 6:30 p.m., museum guests can watch history come to life at Mastodon State Historic Site! Learn about the stories contained within the museum through fun crafts and activities. End the night with a fossil fact-finding mission by flashlight. This is a free interpretive program in the museum auditorium is designed for families with children. Space is limited and required registration can be submitted by visiting usedirect.com/MSPWeb/Default.aspxand use the “Choose Date” menu to choose your selected date.   • Saturday, Feb. 17: Story Time at Mastodon State Historic Site
    Come learn and create at Mastodon State Historic Site’s Story Time. This program features stories and activities related to various park topics. Guests should meet at the museum auditorium at 10 a.m. Story Times are designed for families with children ages 4 to 6, but all families are welcome. Registration is appreciated and can be done by calling the office at 646-464-2976. Mastodon State Historic Site is located at 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive in Imperial.
  • Saturday, Feb. 17: Felix’s 224th Birthday Bash at Felix Vallé House State Historic Site
    In honor of what would have been Felix Vallé’s 224th birthday, the team at Felix Vallé State Historic Site will offer free tours of the mercantile and residence at 198 Merchant St. in Ste. Genevieve. Tours will be offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Guests will also be invited to visit the site gift shop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 200 Merchant St. to enjoy a slice of birthday cake and glass of punch in the open courtyard. The event is free and open to the public and registration is not required. For more information, call the office at 573-883-7102.
