PERRYVILLE — Arctic air is here! Over the next few days, the entire Midwest will experience a cold snap, which will lead to increased electricity usage as our heaters work overtime to keep our homes warm.
To alleviate stress on the grid, consider implementing these simple practices until we get through the bitter cold:
• Turn off lights and electronics when not in use.
• Seal air leaks to prevent heat from escaping and cold air from entering your home. This could be as simple as closing blinds and curtains to keep the draft out.
• Avoid using large appliances (such as dryers and dishwashers) at the same time.
• Wash clothes in cold water.
• Close off unoccupied rooms.
• Wear extra layers – and be sure to wear socks!
• Adjust thermostats to not exceed 70 degrees.
• Adjust your hot water heater to a max of 115 degrees.
It might seem like these small actions won’t make a difference, but they do!
Especially when we all work together to make a few minor adjustments.
