WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Chair of the House Suburban Caucus, released the following statement after she voted in support of the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act:
“This year’s National Defense Authorization Act fully supports the men and women of our armed forces at a critical time in our nation’s history. Our adversaries continue to increase their global influence, and we must be ready to defend against states like China, Russia, and Iran who are provoking instability worldwide. Our troops and their families sacrifice a great deal to keep our country safe and our freedoms strong, and the NDAA provides them the necessary resources, including a large pay increase, to stay fully prepared to fight back against our enemies at a moment’s notice.
“The NDAA is a win for America and a win for Missouri. It includes funding for 12 Super Hornet planes made here in St. Louis, supporting thousands of jobs on which our community relies. I worked to make sure these Super Hornets were included in the final bill, and I am pleased to report I also included other initiatives in this vital legislation that will promote our national defense and advance American ingenuity and values.”
Wagner Initiatives Included:
H.R. 1083 – Southeast Asia Strategy Act
- Directs the United States to strengthen its relationship with critical partners in Southeast Asia by developing a coherent and clearly communicated regional strategy that addresses all aspects of the relationship, from trade and humanitarian goals to diplomatic and security arrangements
Burma Amendment
- Directs Treasury to ensure that financial assistance provided through international financial institutions does not support Burma’s military junta, which has committed egregious crimes against humanity and illegally seized control of the Burmese government.
