NFIB: Small business response to St. Louis’ Plan on List of ‘Judicial Hellholes’

JEFFERSON CITY (Dec. 7, 2021) – NFIB State Director Brad Jones released the following statement today in response to the American Tort Reform Foundation’s annual list of “Judicial Hellholes,” which ranked the City of St. Louis No. 7. In its criticism of the St. Louis courts, the foundation cited some judges’ “history of ignoring both state law and U.S. Supreme Court precedent regarding expert evidence standards, personal jurisdiction and venue, and damage awards.”

“Every Missourian deserves a legal system that treats both sides fairly and where judges don’t try to legislate from the bench,” Jones said. “When the legislature returns to Jefferson City, we will fight for reforms that end the practice of judicial tourism in the St. Louis courts and create a level playing field for defendants as well as plaintiffs.”
