2023 ozone season ends with no exceedances

PERRYVILLE – The final ozone report for the 2023 season is out.

The recorded readings for October were on average within the “Good” Air quality index, with the exception of three occurrences (10/1-10/3) with “Moderate” AQI readings.

In Bonne Terre (Ste. Genevieve, Co.), the average was 38 ppb, while the Farrar (Perry Co.) monitor averaged 39 ppb.

In addition, the design values for the season increased to 68 ppb for Bonne Terre and 71 ppb for Farrar.

“This increase can be attributed, in large part, to forest fires in Canada,” said Alexandra Rios, Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission Environmental Planner, who prepared the report.
