These grants support projects that relate directly to the identification, evaluation or protection of Missouri’s historic properties.

They can be used to fund:

  • Training for members of historic preservation commissions or city staff members.
  • Workshops, conferences and poster presentations related to historic preservation.
  • Walking tours of sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Preservation plans.
  • Design guidelines.
  • Inventorying of archival files related to archaeology or historic architecture.
  • Architectural and archeological surveys.
  • Nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Maintenance and construction documents for publically owned, national register-listed buildings. This includes historic structure reports, maintenance plans and planning for repair or rehabilitation work, such as designs, feasibility studies.

Historic Preservation Fund grants cannot fund physical construction or repair work, museum exhibits or archeological digs.

Certified local governments, county governmental entities, municipalities and nonprofit organizations with a historic preservation mission are eligible to apply for the grants. Applications from certified local governments will be considered first in accordance with federal regulations.
