CHESTER – Veteran’s Day is Saturday November 11, 2023 and this year’s host for the Annual Chester Veteran’s Day Program will be the American Legion in Chester.
The event takes place at the American Legion Post 487 in Chester located at 500 Opdyke Street in Chester. The start time is 11:00 a.m.
The program will begin with a welcome from Randy Werner, American Legion Post 487 Commander. The Rev. Tom Klausing will then open with an Invocation.
Steve Colonel and the Chester High School Band will play the National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner”, followed by “America the Beautiful”.
Mayor Tom Page of Chester and Commander Rick Nelan of VFW Post 3553 in Chester will both offer remarks.
Guest Speaker for the day will be Bill Enyart, U.S. Army Maj. General, Retired. General Enyart has spoken at other patriotic events in Chester in the past and promises to be a very interesting and thought-provoking speaker for the 2023 Chester Veteran’s Day Program.
Immediately following General Enyart’s presentation, the Chester High School band will perform “Armed Forces Medley” which features the theme songs from each of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. As each theme song is played, current and former members of those respective branches will be asked to stand and be honored.
The combined American Legion and VFW Honor Guard will then provide a ceremony titled, “Salute to Departed Veterans” which consists of a 21-gun salute.
Immediately following the “Salute to Departed Veterans”, Chester High School Band Trumpeter, Josh Casteel will play “TAPS”.
To close the program, Rev, Tom Klausing will give a “Benediction”. Following the service, everyone is invited to stay for a delicious luncheon provided by volunteers of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The community is strongly encouraged to attend this very patriotic Veteran’s Day Service to honor our Veterans of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.
