Officials don’t know why murder suspect came to Missouri

STE. GENEVIEVE — A suspect in a California double-homicide was arrested Wednesday in Ste. Genevieve.

Ste. Genevieve County Chief Deputy Jason Schott confirmed the arrest and saying he had no idea why 41-year-old Oscar Hernandez chose to visit the Show-Me State.

“I won’t even speculate,” Schott said and added the suspect made no statement at the time of his arrest by U.S. Marshalls assisted by Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Schott said the sheriff’s office received information from the U.S. Marshal’s who were following the suspect on I-55.

Once in Ste. Gen county, deputies located the vehicle conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and Hernandez was taken into custody, without any incident, with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s.

The suspect was transported to the Ste. Genevieve County Detention Center where he is awaiting extradition back to California.
