STE. GENEVIEVE — Before the Ste. Genevieve High School vs. Valle Catholic football game on Friday, the Ste. Genevieve Football program recognized the Marzuco family and their late son, Andrew.
Andrew served many seasons as the football manager for the Dragons and continued to volunteer his Friday nights after graduating from SGHS in 2020.
When games were going well, Andrew would be the first to celebrate with his brothers; when games weren’t going well, he would hand out his notorious hugs or a fist bump as a reminder to focus on the things that matter.
Andrew was many things.
He was a rock for countless players and coaches, a catalyst for inclusion in our school and community, and a friend to all who met him. Andrew completely embodied what it means to be “Loyal & True”, so much so, that the SGHS Football program is changing the name of its annual character recognition to the “Andrew Mazuco Loyal & True Award.” This award is the highest honor a Ste. Genevieve High School football player can receive.
On the 50 yard line, Athletic Director Jeff Nix presented Andrew’s jersey to his family as part of a reminder that many players may go on to wear the number 3, but none will fill it like Andrew did.
“On behalf of the Ste. Gen. Football program, we can never begin to thank the Marzucos enough for the impact their son continues to have on this program,” a school official stated.
