MU Extension conducts Day of Service at Ste. Genevieve Co. Fairgrounds

STE GENEVIEVE, Mo. ― Every year, University of Missouri Extension seeks ways for its personnel and Council to come together and give back to the community during Missouri Good Neighbor Week.

On September 28, Extension teamed up with the Ste. Genevieve County Fair Board. The fairground bleachers were in need of sealing to prepare them for the winter. This makes sure they are in good condition when the county gathers next summer to enjoy some favorite events such as the demo derby, truck pull, and tractor pull. Extension was proud to contribute to a project that will benefit the hardworking members and volunteers of the Fair Board as well as all those who enjoy the local events they host.

Participants that day included Council members Jessica Weiler, Missy Marberry, Jason Blum, Jean Werner, Mary Otte, and Evan Weiler. Also participating were Extension personnel of Kendra Graham, Kate Kammler, Janet Braun, and Jodi Ralston.

Giving back is part of the history of Missouri and Extension. Missouri Good Neighbor Week (September 28 to October 4) encourages Missourians to participate in events and activities to establish connections with their neighbors and community. Several years ago, Community Development Specialist David Burton launched MU Extension’s Engaged Neighbor Project with the goal of promoting more caring and connected communities.

Last year, Gov. Mike Parson signed legislation designating Missouri Good Neighbor Week. Missouri Good Neighbor Week also coincided with National Good Neighbor Day, which was first proclaimed by President Gerald R. Ford in 1976.
