STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve Police Chief Jasen Crump has announced his department is investigating a stabbing which happened about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5th in the 800 block of Jefferson Street.
He said an officer was dispatched to the scene and located a 38-year-old man who resides on Jefferson who had received a stab wound in his right arm and was bleeding from an arterial wound.
Chief Crump says the responding officers were able to apply a tourniquet to control the bleeding until the ambulance arrived.
The victim was then transported to a St. Louis hospital where he has undergone surgery for his injuries.
The extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown at this time.
An investigation revealed that the victim went outside of his home to confront the driver of a vehicle that had been doing “burnouts” in the victim’s driveway. An argument ensued and the suspect pulled out a knife, stabbed the victim and then fled the scene.

Friday morning, officers located the suspect in the 900 block of Market street. After a brief struggle with the suspect, he was taken into custody. The suspect is identified as a 30 year old male from Ste. Genevieve. The suspect is currently being held in the Ste. Genevieve county jail.
A probable cause statement has been forwarded to the Ste. Genevieve County Prosecuting Attorney requesting the following charges: first degree assault, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, second degree property damage and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
