STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District releases the following information pertaining to the closure of school due to inclement weather.
Inclement weather is the existence of abnormal climatic conditions that create hazardous circumstances for students and employees to safely travel to and from school.
The total number of bus miles traveled daily to and from SG R-II campuses is approximately 2,201.
Below are the procedures that will be followed when it is necessary to cancel school due to inclement weather.
- Decision to Cancel School Due to Inclement Weather:
○ The decision will be made by the Superintendent of Schools or her designee.
○ The safety and well-being of students will be the primary focus of such a decision.
○ Road conditions will be checked, and the supervisor of transportation will be consulted to assist in the decision making process. ○ A decision to cancel school will be made as early as possible, with the goal to send out notifications by 5:30 a.m.
- Notification Process: ○ Employees, parents and other need-to-know community members will be notified of a cancellation through the district’s mass call notification system. Notifications will also be posted on all district social media outlets.
○ The following radio and television stations will be notified of a school cancellation:
KTVI Channel 2
Cable Channels 990 and 991
KFMO 1240 AM
KMOV Channel 4
B 104.3 FM
KREI 800 AM
KSDK Channel 5
KTJJ 98.5 FM
KSGM 980 AM, 105.3 FM
KFVS Channel 12
○ Please refrain from contacting school buildings, Fallert Bus Service and/or the above radio and television stations. We need to keep phone lines open so the appropriate notifications can be made as quickly as possible.
- Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan:
○ Prior to the 2020-2021 school year, school districts were required to make up school hours that were lost due to exceptional or emergency circumstances, such as inclement weather. Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, school districts were no longer required to make up the loss of these in-person school hours if the district implemented an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan that had been approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
○ SG R-II has an approved AMI Plan on file with DESE and can use it to make up a maximum of 36 hours during the 2021-2022 school year.
○ Please know that while the district has the ability to utilize this virtual learning platform through the AMI Plan—the district will not implement the AMI plan during the first 5 school days missed due to inclement weather. We recognize that snow days are a treasured part of childhood, beloved by staff, and a time for creating memories.
○ If the decision is made to implement the AMI Plan on the sixth or any s subsequent day missed due to inclement weather, it will be clearly communicated to students and staff with the expectation that virtual instruction occurs on the designated day(s).
