CARBONDALE, Ill. — Eduardo Chavez, the grandson of two legendary civil rights activists: César Chávez and Cuban revolutionary Max Lesnik, will be speaking and presenting his “Hailing César” documentary showcase on Oct. 11 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The presentation begins at 5 p.m. in the John C. Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library (this is a different time than previously announced). Everyone is welcome to attend at no cost.
Eduardo Chavez is likewise an activist as well as a director, speaker and podcast host, and the documentary highlights his journey to understand his legacy and his grandfather. Chavez has spoken at universities across the United States and in other countries as well, and he is the co-founder of Latindia Studios, a member of the speakers board for the Chavez Institute for Law and Social Justice, and host of the “We Are Latinx” podcast.
SIU’s Hispanic Student Council is sponsoring the presentation in collaboration with Library Affairs, University Honors Program and the Student Multicultural Resource Center.
Chavez’s documentary showcase is one of the highlights of SIU’s Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month celebration, which continues through mid-October.
