Freshmen lose, 11-21 and 15-21; JV wins, 22-25, 25-9, and 15-9; Varsity falls 23-25 and 15-25

CHESTER – The Chester High School Lady Jackets hosted the Carlyle Lady Indians in volleyball Thursday September 28 at Colbert Memorial Gymnasium on the Campus of CHS. It was “Hawaii Night” at Colbert and players and fans dressed in their beach wear for their Hawaiian themed event.
The evening started at 5:00 p.m. with the freshmen Lady Jackets playing the freshmen Lady Indians from Carlyle. The freshmen lost in two, rather quick sets, 11-23 and 15-21.
The Junior varsity won their match, but it took three highly contested sets to accomplish that goal.
Chester lost the first set in a close, had-fought set, 22-25, but roared back in the second set and took care of business winning, 25-9. In the third set, which decided to winner, Chester handled the Lady Indians to the tune of 15-9 to win the match.
The Varsity match was a two-set loss as Chester fell in a close hard-fought first set, 23-25, but could not handle the hard-hitting and finessed ball-placing Lady Indians, losing by ten points, 15-25 to give the match win to Carlyle.
In the loss, Jordan Buskohl led in kills with 10 blasts. Mabry Wingerter added a pair of aces. Ellen McCormick led the team in digs with seven and Mabry Wingerter paced the Lady Jackets with 10 assists.
The loss dropped the Varsity Jackets to an overall record of 16-6 for the 2023 season. The Jackets had a buy Week 6 with matches against Valmeyer (loss), Okawville (Win) and Carlyle (loss).
Week 7 will bring a home match to CHS Monday October 2 when the Lady Jackets host Steeleville in the Annual Cancer game to raise money to help fight cancer. Thursday October 5 Chester travels to Okawville for another Cahokia Conference Illinois Division matchup.
