STE. GENEVIEVE – Summer is known for vacations and school breaks, but at Ste. Genevieve County Library that only means one thing, Summer Reading. “I have been here five years, and every year we have always tried something different” Library Director Shawn Long said. “This year our Programming Librarian Misty McElligott created our own scratchers for patrons to earn as they read, and patrons also got to choose one of three prizes that would be picked if the community reading goal was made.”
As the program concluded, 307 participants read for a total of 360,637 minutes a new library best since becoming their own entity in 2016. With that total accomplished patrons got to pick both a Youth and Teen program designed for them.
The winning selection for youth was a science program which is hosted by Mad Science of St. Louis and will be held on October 21st at 2 p.m. at the Library. The Teens who participated chose a Library Escape Room and staff are currently working on that program and are hopeful to have a date and time on that soon.
“Even if you never participated in Summer Reading all are welcome at the upcoming programs.” Shawn said “This was the first year of this type of giveaway and I’m certain we will keep that aspect and streamline it, and come up with even better prizes next year!”
Ste. Genevieve County Library would like to thank our sponsors for this year’s Summer Reading which includes Thrive Nutrition, Country Mart, Subway, First State Community Bank, Mimi’s Kona Ice, Deb Says Sew & River Rapids Water Park.
