Gary Rabine applauds IASB for leaving national school boards association

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – Illinois candidate for governor Gary Rabine is releasing the following statement on the decision of the Illinois Association of School Boards decision to terminate its membership in the National School Boards Association in the wake of the recent letter the national group sent to the Biden Administration seeking a federal investigation into parents protesting at school board meetings.

“I applaud the decision of the Illinois Association of School Boards to leave the national association. The National School Boards Association seems more interested in perpetuating woke ideology than they are on ensuring kids have a good education.

“Parents have every right to question the decisions of their local school boards. The idea that parents simply expressing dissatisfaction with the kind of curriculum choices are being made at schools and other policy matters should be labeled ‘domestic terrorists’ is absurd. There is nothing more important to parents than the education of their children. Not only do parents have a right to be involved, but they also have a moral obligation to be involved.

“We as a society should not tolerate the misuse of the power of government to intimidate our political opponents. No one speaking out at a public meeting of a public body should have to fear the threat of a federal investigation simply for expressing an opinion. The right of free speech is a principle we all should take seriously.

“The Illinois Association of School Boards does take the right of free speech seriously and they do take the rights of parents seriously as well. They made a strong statement with their decision, and I strongly support the actions they took to stand up for Illinois families.”
