STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve City Hall recently posted a message on social media, concerning putting grass clippings in the street.
I think it is a message which applies to everyone, not just those who live in Ste. Genevieve.
“Please do not allow grass clippings or any yard waste to accumulate in the street. After mowing or trimming yards, please sweep or blow clippings back into the yard.
“During and after rainfall, stormwater brings yard waste that has been left on paved surfaces into city storm drains. When large amounts of yard waste gather in storm drains, it may clog the system and cause trouble in our roads, stormwater systems, and water systems.
“If you wish to bag and dispose of yard waste, the city offers a free yard waste disposal site for city residents on Division Street near the levee. If interested, please contact City Hall at 883-5400 with any questions. Thank you.
I would like to add my own two cents to this vital and timely information, what with all the rain and flooding we have seen in the River Region: another reason to keep your grass clippings in your yard is safety. Grass clippings on pavement have proven to be very dangerous to motorists, especially those riding motorcycles.
