POTOSI, Mo. —A new boat dock has been placed at the Council Bluff Lake Recreation Area, located in Iron County, of the Mark Twain National Forest. The site, referred to as Wild Boar Hollow, is a popular location for launching fishing boats onto Council Bluff Lake.
New Wildboar Hollow Boat Dock at Council Bluff Lake
Just a short drive or walk from the beach and campground, the new boat dock will make an already excellent fishing boat launch site even better. The large parking lot at the location gives anglers and paddlers plenty of room to maneuver and park vehicles and trailers. The new dock has replaced the old one, which had been worn by years of weathering and use. This project was made possible through funding provided by the Great American Outdoors Act which was signed into law in 2020. This Act addresses maintenance backlog of various facilities located on federal lands, such as the USDA, Forest Service.
Recreation Manager Chris Woods, stated, “We are very happy to see this much-needed boat dock go into operation, and we look forward to future improvements to our recreation infrastructure located on the Potosi/Fredericktown and Salem Ranger Districts.”
Many sites on the Mark Twain National Forest have been improved over the past couple years, thanks to GAOA and other mechanisms. Forest recreation managers will continue to seek opportunities to improve recreation infrastructure through various funding sources and partners.
Several vault toilets are scheduled to be replaced this fall at other Forest Service campgrounds in the area: Berryman Campground, Marble Creek Campground and Loggers Lake Campground.
