JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Elaine Gannon, R-De Soto, is proud to announce her legislation to extend MO HealthNet coverage to postpartum women from 60 days to one full year following childbirth was signed into law on July 6.
“This recently signed bipartisan law will give new moms the health care coverage they need to recover from the postpartum effects of pregnancy and childbirth,” said Sen. Gannon. “Extending these benefits will help reduce our state’s high maternal mortality rates and provide vital health care to low-income families.”
Now law, Senate Bill 45 also prohibits certain exams on anaesthetized patients, establishes the “Health Professional Loan Repayment Program” to entice students to pursue medical degrees, streamlines the process to apply for public assistance and authorizes a transitional benefits program to help TANF and SNAP recipients move from dependency to self-sufficiency.
