JEFFERSON CITY — One person died, and six were hurt in a traffic crash on Route Y in St. Francois County Thursday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 26-year-old Wyatt A. Vangundy of French Village was pronounced at Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre.
The patrol says the crash happened when an eastbound 2012 Honda CRV driven by Vangundy failed to negotiate a left hand curve and travelled into the westbound lane, colliding with a westbound 2019 Honda Odyssey driven by 69-year-old Margaret A. Lambay of Barnhart. She was seriously injured in the crash along with a 14-year-old passenger in the Odyssey. She was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by an Air Evac helicopter. The boy was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson by a St. Francois County ambulance.
Another passenger in the Odyssey, 47-year-old Sameer Lambay, also of Barnhart, had moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson by a St. Francois County ambulance.
Three other passengers in the Odyssey had minor injuries: 73-year-old Abdul Lambay, a seven-year-old girl, and a 13-year-old boy, all of Barnhart. They were taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson by the Valle Ambulance District.
Alll of the adults and two of the children in the Odyssey were buckled up. One child, the seven-year-old girl, was not restrained.
Vangundy was also unrestrained.
Both vehicles were total losses.
The crash happened about 12:10 p.m. west of Critter Lane Road.
