JEFFERSON CITY — A 46-year-old Ste. Genevieve man escaped injury in a traffic crash Friday morning on Highway 221 in St. Francois County.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reports Shane P. Kramer, who was the driver of a 2004 GMC Sierra which was one of two vehicles involved in the crash.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, a 1999 Saturn SL2, 18-year-old Ronny D. Barton of Bismarck received serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
The patrol reports the Sierra was traveling south on 221 and the Saturn was traveling north on 221. The patrol says the driver of the Saturn was inattentive to the roadway and failed to maintain the right half of the roadway.
The patrol report says the Saturn crossed the center of the road and collided with the Sierra, despite the driver of the Sierra steering to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision.
The patrol report says upon impact the Saturn skidded across the center of the roadway and ran off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment.
The patrol says Barton was unrestrained in his vehicle, while Kramer was buckled up.
Both vehicles were total losses.
The crash happened about 10:40 a.m. near 1st Street.
