A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 for 87-year-old Sonya Lyons of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who passed away at 7:25 pm, Monday, March 27, 2023 at Trinity Woods, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She was born to the late Alvin and Henrietta (nee Ruff) Suttles on March 30, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Sonya had taught English in high school in Sacramento, California for 12 years.
Members of her family had served in the ministry of the Lutheran Church for many generations. She and her companion, Robert Bense, had met as undergraduates at the University of Illinois nearly seventy years ago.
Survivors: her companion, Robert Bense Tulsa, Okla.; three children: George (Kathryn) Lyons Tulsa, Okla., John Lyons San Francisco, Calif. and Joan (Patrick) Docherty Trexlertown, Penn.; three grandchildren: Marcus Lyons, David Lyons and Sierra Docherty.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Sandra Donaldson.
