ROLLA, MO – Sigma Pi fraternity’s Alpha Iota Chapter at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is celebrating its 90th anniversary on Saturday, April 29, 2023. To commemorate the occasion, alumni events will be held in St. Louis and Branson, MO. Since the chapter’s founding in 1933 at the then Missouri School of Mines, nearly 1,200 men have been initiated into the chapter.
Over the 90 years, 4 members have been honored with the Sigma Pi fraternity Founders’ Award, the highest honor the national fraternity bestows on exemplary alumni members of the organization. The undergraduate chapter has earned the fraternity’s Grand Council Award 4 times in the last 20 years. This award recognizes the top chapters nationwide within the fraternity for scholarship, philanthropy and service hours, and campus leadership.
The Alpha Iota Chapter would not be where it is today without the support of the AIEF, AIBA, and generous alumni donations.
The chapter house is owned and maintained by the Alpha Iota Building Association (AIBA). The AIBA board includes 7 alumni of the chapter who donate their time to assist active members. The board led the efforts from 2016 to 2018 to fundraise for a new house to be built, and from 2018 to 2019 orchestrated the design and building of the structure.
The Alpha Iota Educational Foundation (AIEF) is a nonprofit organization administered by 8 volunteer alumni of the Alpha Iota Chapter. It supports several programs, including:
- financial grants to members who perform well scholastically,
- scholarships for incoming freshmen and members of the fraternity to support their educational goals,
- and direct contributions to the chapter, which support the educational aspects of the house.
Donations to AIEF have resulted in more than $100,000 in scholarships and grants to members of the chapter at Missouri S&T since 2020.
