MILLSTADT, Ill. – Families from the Millstadt Consolidated School District are sharing good news about good kids. The school, along with Becky Rasmussen, Coordinator and Coach of the District #160 Odyssey of the Mind, is excited to be leading a group of eager, curious, creative students to the World Finals Competition at Michigan State University, where they will compete with teams from all around the world.
Millstadt CCSD is engaging in a positive, creative problem-solving program called Odyssey of the Mind; an extra-curricular program serving as a creative outlet for many of the district’s gifted and talented students, empowering them to use skill in areas such as writing, performing, building, painting, and engineering. The students’ hard work ethic earned them first place awards during the Illinois State Competition, which in turn, gave them the privilege of progressing to World Finals Competition.
Advancing is an honor and will take the students on an unforgettable journey. Still, there is a huge expense attached to this once in a lifetime adventure.
Coordinator and coach, Becky Rasmussen shares, “This year it will cost each attendee approximately $700 to travel to and from Michigan State, and also for room and board at World Competition.”
She continues, “Our teams and their families work throughout the year in various fundraising activities to finance the possibility that we could have teams earning their way to World Finals each spring, but we are always grateful for any assistance we might receive from our school and our outstanding community members.”
Donations toward helping the Millstadt Students’ “ODYSSEY” come true are tax deductible and truly appreciated.

About Odyssey of the Mind:
OM™ teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Imagine being faced with a problem that requires an original solution. It can be frightening. Now imagine not being afraid to solve that problem – that is what OM members learn. This skill and self-confidence will carry over to all areas of their lives. OM brings the classroom to life as students apply what they learn and combine it with their interests and passions to solve our unique open-ended problems. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. This international program is designed to help students at all learning levels grow as individual learners, grow as team members, and to reach their full potential.
