JEFFERSON CITY, MO – On Tuesday, the House Committee on Elections and Elected Officials passed legislation to make school boards in Missouri more transparent.
The legislation, sponsored by Representative Phil Christofanelli (R-St. Peters), creates an online portal on the Secretary of State’s website that will list the name of each school board member in Missouri, what board they serve, their election date, the expiration of their term, and the process for filing for the seat.
“Running for school board should be as simple and transparent as possible,” said Rep. Phil Christofanelli. “This transparency portal will provide a central location for parents to learn which seats are open in their district and the process for filing to run.”
The bill now awaits referral to a Rules Committee for further review.
Rep. Phil Christofanelli is a Republican who represents parts of the city of Saint Peters and Saint Charles County in the Missouri House of Representatives.
