STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) is gearing up for its annual Women’s Health Fair to be held Saturday, February 25, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The past two years, the hospital had to shift from in-person to a virtual health fair but, not this year.
“We are excited to bring this back to an in-person event,” said Tina Poston, SGCMH Marketing and Community Relations Director. “Our virtual health fairs had a good showing, but it’s just not the same. So now we’re back face-to-face, and I am sure it will be fun and informative for all who attend.”
This year’s fair theme is “2023 For Me,” and there will be 50-plus vendors along the hospital hallways with lots of great items to share. Poston said women attend the fair for a variety of reasons, and health information is just one of them.
“We’re going to have a lot of our providers at the fair, so this will be a great chance to meet our doctors and nurse practitioners. They’ll be on hand to answer questions and share plenty of health information. We have a great line-up of speaker presentations as well. At 9:00 a.m., Robert Bohnert, FNP-C will talk about bone health; at 10:00 a.m. Mary Crecelius, WHNP, APNG-BC and Debbie Raney, FNP-BC will talk about genetic testing; Cardiac Health will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Cardiologist Matthew Bosner and Morgan Ritter, FNP-C; and our final presentation at noon will be Dr. Hannah Kertz, OB/GYN who will focus on women’s health.”
Free blood pressure testing, pulmonary function tests, and grip strength evaluation with Mid-America Rehab, will add to the health portion of the fair. And to focus more on women’s health, the hospital will offer fairgoers a chance to register for a host of screenings. The screenings include the Fit Screening, a total cholesterol, HDL, LDL & triglycerides for only $40. Participants can go online to schedule the FIT Screening or register on the day of the fair.
Other screenings include Heart Score $75, Triscan Pac $199, CT Lung Cancer and Bone Density Screening (both will be billed to insurance). Please visit stegenevievehospital.org for screening guidelines. All screenings will be conducted after the fair.
“Most all of our departments will participate so women can learn about Cardiac Rehab, Respiratory Therapy, Food and Nutrition services, Patient Portal and even employment opportunities with Human Resources,” said Poston. “It’s a great way to get to know the hospital, and all of the resources we offer to the community.”
“We’ll even have a little pampering with hair stylists, massage therapists, beauty and relaxation stations, yoga, cardio drum class and this year we’re going to have Buy the Bunch with their flower bar, which I hear is a big hit in the community,” said Poston. “There will even be cooking demos and a special garden women can walk through, where they will learn about lifestyle medicine, our fresh foods RX program, and other healthy eating information, and take home a packet of seeds that they can plant in their own gardens.”
Poston said another reason women love coming to the fair is for the giveaways.
“We’ll have plenty of those,” she said. Everyone attending will receive a giveaway at the door; there will be a door prize drawing after each speaker presentation for those attending the sessions; most of our vendors have giveaways; and this should be enticing—cold hard cash! We’d like to thank the SGCMH Medical Staff and Lakenan Insurance for sponsoring our grand prize of $3,000 to be shared equally among six participants in a random drawing at the fair’s end.”
Throw in a photo booth, delicious treats, and lunch Poston said, it’s a fun-filled morning and early afternoon at the hospital that women have been enjoying for the past 24 years.
“We hope women come out and enjoy themselves, do and see lots of things, and most of all leave inspired,” said Poston.
