JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The American Soybean Association (ASA) elected the leaders who will guide the organization through the coming year’s top advocacy priorities, including the much-anticipated 2023 Farm Bill, among other soy policy issues.
During its annual meeting in St. Louis last week, ASA leadership selected Missouri farmer-leader, Ronnie Russell to serve as an at-large member on the executive committee. Russell served in this position previously and led the Missouri Soybean Association (MSA) as its board president from 2020 to 2022. Russell still serves on the statewide MSA board representing District 1.
“It’s an honor to be elected to the executive committee and serve the soybean producers of the 30 states the American Soybean Association represents,” said Russell. “I look forward to advocating in their best interest, especially in the development of the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill.”
Daryl Cates (IL), who previously served as ASA vice president, will serve as 2023 ASA president. Cates is a fourth-generation farmer, raising soybeans, corn, wheat and double crop beans on his family operation.
In addition, the board elected Caleb Ragland (KY) as ASA secretary; Scott Metzger (OH) as treasurer; and Dave Walton (IA), Alan Meadows (TN) and Jered Hooker (IL) as at-large members of the executive committee in addition to Russell.
“Missouri is privileged to have an advocate like Ronnie serving on the national Association executive committee,” said Gary Wheeler, Missouri Soybeans CEO and executive director. “His knowledge and steadfast leadership will serve the farmers well and ensure pertinent policy gets passed.”
ASA welcomed 13 new directors who began their nine-year terms, including Russell Wolf of Missouri.
ASA is leading the leading soy policy advocate and most sought-after partner and adviser advancing the success and prosperity of U.S. soybean farmers. Find out more about the organization at soygrowers.com.
