A funeral will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 for 75-year-old Wm. Terry McConkey of Gurnee, Illinois, formerly of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 4:30 pm, November 29, 2022 in Gurnee, Illinois.
He was born February 14, 1947 in Red Bud, Illinois to Wm. Russell and Orpha A. (Walter) McConkey who both preceded him in death.
Terry was a graduate of Southern Illinois University. Upon graduating from SIU he entered the military. He was a very proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the 1st Cavalry Division.
After serving his time in the military he worked at Captain Mine in Percy, Illinois for many years until its closure and his retirement.
The things that Terry most loved were family, fishing and music of all genres. Terry was never short on words and loved telling the latest joke. He was also an avid guitar and piano player and loved to entertain.
He is survived by three sons: Daryl (Jeana) Baiter of Bracey, Va., Joshua (Wilma) McConkey of Doniphan, Mo., and Michael McConkey of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; six grandchildren: Brianna Eckhoff, Kasey Baiter, Lexi Baiter, Justin McConkey, Ava McConkey and Alice McConkey; five great grandchildren: Aydin, Chloe, Maverick, Jessie and Jude; a sister: Carol McConkey Hardy of Gurnee, Ill.; two nieces: Carla (Terry) Prisk of Gurnee and Gayelynn (Peter) Galgano Homer of Glen, Ill.; former wife and friend: Janet Brandt of Portland, Ore.; and a brother-in-law: Edwin Baiter of Farina, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by his in-laws.
It was Terry’s wish to be cremated.
A graveside service for 75-year-old Wm. Terry McConkey of Gurnee, formerly of Chester, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Mt. Summit Cemetery in Rockwood, Illinois.
