Pedestrian struck and killed on I-55

JEFFERSON CITY — A 67-year-old Jonesburg, Mo. man died Wednesday night, when he was struck by a truck, while standing outside his pick up on I-55 in Perry County.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Richard P. Hayden was pronounced at St. Louis University Hospital after being flown there by an Air Evac medical helicopter.

 

The patrol says the crash happened when a northbound 2020 International LT62F driven by 32-year-old Silas C. Jones of Dexter, Mo. struck Hayden and the 1982 GMC Sierra which was stopped and was partially blocking the right lane. The patrol says Hayden had exited the pick up.

 

Jones, who was buckled up, was not injured.

 

The Sierra was a total loss, while the International had moderate damage. Both vehicle were towed from the scene.

 

The crash happened about 9:50 p.m. south of the 130.8 mile marker.
