Tom Maue, 64, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 2:42 pm, Friday, November 18, 2022 at Addington Place of Sparta, Sparta, Illinois.
He was born Sept. 18, 1958 in Breese, Illinois, a son of Alphonse H. and Marcella (nee Mueller) Maue who both preceded him in death.
Tom married Tracy McKinney on October 7, 1978 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester; she survives in Sparta, Ill.
He is also survived by three children: Nathan (Sami) Maue of Chester, Ill.; Luke Maue of Chester, Ill. and
Caitlin (Luke) Mennerich of Jackson, Mo.; six grandchildren: Isaac Thomas, Kylie Kay, Brylee Elizabeth, Blake Tyler, Hayden Ella and Barrett Lucas; his mother-in-law: Ioan Alms of Ruma, Ill.; siblings; siblings-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
On August 17, 1978, Tom started as a correctional officer at Menard Correctional Center in Chester. On February 1, 1985, he was promoted to a Correctional Sergeant. On May 16, 1986, he was promoted to a Correctional Lieutenant. On July 16, 1990, he was promoted to a Correctional Captain. On November 18, 1994, he was promoted to a Unit Superintendent, and on November 16, 1999 he was promoted to a Major. Tom retired on November 26, 2008 from Menard Correctional Center where he was loved and respected by so many.
Tom was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester, Illinois.
He was a huge family man.
Tom enjoyed deer hunting with his family, fishing, St. Louis Cardinal baseball games, BBQ cookouts and traveling to the beach every year with family.
Most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
It was Tom’s wish to be cremated.
