Ste. Genevieve School District R-II outlines requirement for school board candidates

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District will accept declarations of candidacy from any person interested in running for a position on the school board in the April 4, 2023 election. There are three positions available, each with a three-year term as director on the Ste. Genevieve County R-II Board of Education.

 

Candidates must be citizens of the United States and resident taxpayers of the district.

 

Candidates must have resided in Missouri for one year preceding the election and must be at least 24 years of age.

 

Candidates must not be delinquent in the payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes or real property taxes on residence. If a candidate is a past or present corporate officer of any fee office, the candidate must verify that the office does not owe any taxes to the state.

 

Candidates understand they are required, by law, to file an affidavit stating these facts with the Missouri Department of Revenue. Candidates must be eligible to hold office in accordance with Missouri law.

 

Candidates must not have been found guilty of—nor have pled guilty to—a felony under the federal laws of the United States of America, or to a felony under Missouri law or an offense committed in another state that would be considered a felony in Missouri.

 

Candidates must not be registered or required to be registered as a sex offender pursuant to Missouri law.

 

Candidates must have filed all required campaign disclosure reports for all previous elections in which they were candidates and have paid all fees assessed against them by the Missouri Ethics Commission, if applicable.

 

Successful candidates must complete 18.5 hours of training within their first year of service.

 

Qualified applicants for the Board may file a declaration of candidacy during regular business hours in the district office.

 

According to board policy and state law, a candidate shall file their intent to become a

candidate in person and in writing.

 

Filing will begin on Dec. 6, 2022 at 8 a.m. and will end on Dec. 27, 2022

at 5 p.m. In-between these dates and times, candidates may file during regular business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Filing will not occur on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26, 2022 and on days the district office is closed due to inclement weather.

 

Documents necessary to file as a candidate for the Board may be secured, in person, at the district office, which is located at 375 N. 5th St. in Ste. Genevieve, MO.

 

The names of the qualified candidates shall be placed on the ballot in order of filing as identified in SG R-II Board Policy BBB-1: School Board Elections.
