Former Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf recognized for work with SEMO Drug Task Force

PERRYVILLE – Retired Perry County Sheriff Gary J. Schaaf was recognized for his years of service on the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force at its most recent regular board meeting.

SEMO Drug Task Force Director, Master Sergeant Mark McClendon, presented Schaaf with a plaque, saying, “We are extremely grateful for your leadership and devotion to the task force.”

Founded in the 1990’s as a response to regional drug trafficking, the SEMO Drug Task Force was the first drug task for in the state.

Schaaf, who retired at the end of September after a decorated forty-year career in law enforcement, is a charter member of the task force and has served as a board member since its inception.

Sheriff Jason Klaus was approved as an interim board member to fulfill the vacated seat.
