Mascoutah woman dies in Route 150 crash in Randolph County

DUQUOIN – A 63-year-old Mascoutah, Ill. woman has died in a three-vehicle traffic crash on Illinois Route 150 in Randolph County.

 

The Illinois State Police says the woman, Robin D. Cumber, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the driver of a 2018 Nissan which was struck head on by a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 33-year-old Jared Bargman of Chester. Bargman was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The third vehicle involved in the crash was a 2011 Kia Sorento driven by 33-year-old Robert C. Appel of Sparta. The ISP says Appel was taken also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The ISP says the preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred:

 

The Kia and Silverado were traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 150 near Briarhill Road.

 

The Nissan was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 150 near Briarhill Road.

 

The Silverado slowed due to a grain truck ahead waiting to make a left turn into a field across from Briarhill Road. The Kia failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of the Silverado, pushing it into the westbound lane of Illinois Route 150.

 

The Silverado collided head on with the Nissan.

 

The crash happened about 3:26 p.m. Thursday.

 

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) is continuing the investigation.
