A funeral will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 for 78-year-old Betty Jane Schumer of Perryville, Missouri who passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Holiday Residential Care.
She was born August 25, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the daughter of Arthur and Della (Robison) Bingenheimer who both preceded her in death.
She and Othmar J. Schumer were married on November 24, 1962 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno.
Survivors include three daughters: Linda (Curt) Buerck, Lisa (Kevin) Martin, and Lori Schumer all of Perryville; a son: Michael (Lori) Schumer of Pevely, Mo.; a brother: Wayne (Jean) Bingenheimer of Springfield, Ill.; a sister: Joy Blake of De Soto, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Lindsay (Drew) Palisch, Kaleb (Stacie) Schumer, Kody (Melissa) Martin, Dalton Schumer, Landon Buerck, Elijah Schumer, Leah Buerck; and four great-grandchildren: Lettie and Layne Palisch, Kambrie and Kinley Martin.
She was also preceded in death by a brother: Harold Bingenheimer; and a grandchild: Aaron McCarthy.
Betty was of the Lutheran faith. She met OJ after moving to Perryville when her family established Bing’s Cafe in Sereno. Betty successfully raised four children and created a loving home for her family.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, embroidery and reading.
She also loved watching her grandchildren play sports.
Betty was an excellent cook. Her chicken and dumplings were the best!
The loves of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2021 and 8-10 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville.
A funeral for 78-year-old Betty Jane Schumer of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville with Deacon Direk Hunt officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville.
