New COVID-19 cases rise by 17 percent in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reports 8,092 new cases of COVID-19 for the week ending September 16th.

 

That’s an increase of  1,193 from the previous week’s total of 6,899 or an increase of 17 percent.

 

There were 15 new cases of COVID-19 in Ste. Genevieve County compared to 10 new COVID-19 cases reported the previous week. That is 83.7 cases per 100,000 population.

 

There were 27 new cases in Perry County, compared to 10 the previous week. That is 140.7 per 100,000 population.

 

Bollinger County had fewer than 17 new cases, compared to fewer than 10 new cases the previous week. That 140.4 per 100,000 population.

 

St. Francois County had 151 new cases compared to  new cases the previous week. That’s 227.1 per 100,000 population.

 

Cape Girardeau had 146 new cases compared to 125 the previous week. That’s 183.6 per 100,000 population.

 

Jefferson County had 344 new cases compared to 319 new cases the previous week. That’s 151.8 per 100,000 population.

Counties in red on this map are at a high community level, those in yellow are at a medium community level and those in green are at a low community level.

 

Bollinger and Cape Girardeau Counties are now at a low community level.

 

Ste. Genevieve and Perry Counties are at a medium community level.

 

St. Francois is listed at a high community level.

 

The CDC recommends the following measures for people in St. Francois County and other areas that are rated at High Community Level for COVID-19 transmission:

 

Wear a well-fitting mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status (including in K-12 schools and other indoor community settings).

 

If you are immuno-compromised or a high risk for severe disease.

 

Wear a mask or respirator that provides you with greater protection.

 

Consider avoiding non-essential indoor activities in public where you could be exposed.

 

Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to take other precautions

 

Have a plan for rapid testing if needed (e.g., having home tests or access to testing)

 

IF YOU TEST POSITIVE: Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you are a candidate for treatments like oral antivirals, and monoclonal antibodies

 

If you have household or social contact with someone at high risk for severe disease

 

consider self-testing to detect infection before contact

 

consider wearing a mask when indoors with them

 

Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters

 

Maintain improved ventilation throughout indoor spaces when possible

 

Follow CDC recommendations for isolation and quarantine, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19.

 

At the Medium Community Level, such as in Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau Counties persons who are elderly or immuno-compromised (at risk of severe outcomes) are advised to wear a mask in indoor public places. In addition, they should make sure to get up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines or get their second booster, if eligible.
