Marian Cliff Manor robbery reported

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what may have been an armed robbery of controlled medication at Marian Cliff Manor in St. Mary.

Sheriff’s office Chief Deputy Jason Schott said an “incident” Marian Cliff Manor is being investigated.

The public first learned of the incident through a St. Francois County Facebook post saying the armed person wanted to obtain controlled medications. It did not say whether the person was able to get any, what type of weapon was used or whether they had an accomplice or vehicle. There is no description of the suspect available.

A former employee of the facility who handed out controlled medications to residents confirmed that the medications are kept in a locked cabinet, in a locked office, except when they were preparing to give out the medication and then the office door remained locked, while the cabinet was open. The medications would be given to each resident four times a day, generally at mealtime. The person handling the medications is called a med tech. The med tech has keys to the office and the medication cabinet. The former employee said a camera was installed in the office while she was working there. She believed it was always on.

There are indications, the incident happened around 3 a.m. Friday morning. The female med-tech who was confronted by the suspect has reportedly been given some time off. It was said that a male med-tech will be on duty overnight from now on.

The latest Sheriff’s Office blotter has an entry on September 2nd stating “Deputies were called to the 300 block of Elm St. in St. Mary for a robbery.” Marian Cliff Manor is located at 381 Elm Street. The facility has 50-60 occupants, all men, most of whom are veterans.

During last night’s St. Mary Board of Aldermen meeting Police Chief Brendon Corbett said he is working with the county on the armed robbery of Marion Cliff.
