JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Celebrate Archaeology Day 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Graham Cave State Park. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate at Missouri’s most significant early archaeological cave. On Jan. 20, 1961, Graham Cave became the first archaeological site in the United States to be designated a National Historical Landmark.
The day kicks off with atlatl demonstrations in the Lower Picnic Area. Other activities include prehistoric and historic artifact displays, flintknapping and fire-making demonstrations, wildlife fur exhibits, atlatl throwing, Dutch oven cooking and children’s programs.
Event sponsors include Missouri State Parks, Graham family descendants, Montgomery County Historical Society, Montgomery County Retired School Personnel Association and the Missouri Atlatl Association.
