CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Spring is a great time to go fishing, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a free family fishing program from 5 – 7 p.m. on June 3 at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center as part of the Nature Center at Night series.
MDC will provide all equipment and bait for fishing in the Kid’s Fishing Pond, and at Cape County Park North. MDC Cape Nature Center Assistant Manager Jamie Koehler will demonstrate how to rig and use spin casting rods and reels. Hooks will then be baited with worms, and participants will go fishing with the help of MDC staff and volunteers. And if the fish aren’t biting, be prepared for some other “fishy” activities!
A fishing permit is not required for people fishing at this event. Registration is also not required.
“The basic skills are simple, and this class provides knowledge and fishing experience at the nature center pond,” Koehler said. “Participants will gain the knowledge required to go fishing with confidence.”
If you are participating in Cape Nature Center’s “A Year in Color,” this program earns a blue aquatics bead.
