Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen meeting held last night

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen met in regular and work session last night.

Board President Susan Johnson (left in photo) conducted the meeting in the absence of Mayor Paul Hassler.

 

During the regular session the aldermen heard from City Administrator Happy Welch, Alliance Water representative Steve Wilson and Police Chief Eric Bennett.

 

Welch announced that the repaving of Parkwood is being delayed by the weather.

 

Wilson announced there was a water main break and a sewer line break which were dealt with. He also reported there was storm clean up following several storms that moved through the city. He said Bauman will begin work on the water main replacement project May 31st with the street project to follow.

 

The board conducted a public hearing on a request from Clare Bauman and Armando Guizar for a special use permit to allow guest lodging at 89 Seraphin Street in a general residential district. The request was later given first round approval.

 

Bennett reported the resignation of Officer Kyle Weiss. He will be replaced by an eight-year veteran with the Perryville Police Department, Chris Bradford.

 

Alderwoman Ashley Armbruster reported the first movie in the park will be shown June 4th. The movies are normally the first Saturday of the month, however the July movie will be shown Friday, July 1st, because the Independence Day fireworks display will be Saturday, July 2nd, as that was the only date available from the fireworks company.

 

The board approved three items on the consent agenda:

 

Jarod Jokerst received approval for a street closure for Linn Drive from Scott Street to Audubon June 25, 2022 from 3-9 p.m.

 

A liquor license request from Oberle Meats, 21529 Highway 32, was approved.

 

The Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve received approval for street closures for the French Heritage Festival June 11th. The following streets will be closed DuBourg from 9-11:15 a.m.; Merchant Street from 10:30-11 a.m.; and Jefferson from Valle Street to Main Street from 6-9 a.m.

 

The aldermen handled three measures:

 

Bill No. 4492: Removing unneeded handicapped parking zones on city streets was given final approval.7-0-1 with Alderman Raney absent.

 

Bill No. 4495: A special use permit for Clare Bauman and Armando Guizar to allow guest lodging at 89 Seraphin Street was given first round approval on a 7-0-1 vote.

 

Bill No. 4496: The ordinance allows the transfer of 49.04 acres of property along Progress Parkway Ste. Genevieve County Catholic Church Real Estate Corporation to the city of Ste. Genevieve including a future easement  was given first and second round approval on a final vote of 7-0-1 vote.

 

The regular meeting was followed by a work session.

 

The aldermen discussed redistricting of the city’s wards and settled on Option 4.

The aldermen discussed changes in the city’s collection of water bills, to thwart renters who move out, leaving their landlord to pay the bill.

 

The aldermen discussed an application for a Transportation Alternative Grant. City Administrator Happy Welch said it would be nice to connect the sidewalk on South Fourth Street from where it stops just of Cedar Lane to Rozier Street where it would connect to an existing sidewalk system.
