Dear Sun Times News Online editor:
Along with Co-Founder Heather Brayfield, I am proud to present a new anti-mine outreach group called SAVE HAWN!.
We will be organizing outreach events at Hawn State Park for the next few weekends. Our group focuses solely on dealing with universal issues like protecting public land and bringing awareness of current threats in the area like Roger Faulkner’s proposed sand mine.
I would like to remind our allies in the environment and outdoors, this sand mine threat is a clarion call to all Americans demanding environmental protection for future generations in a biodiverse, ecologically sensitive area with abundant natural resources coveted by polluters and land developers with no concern about our precious natural world and maintaining this land free of abuse and permanent destruction for the benefit of all.
If you would like to coordinate or send materials for distribution, please contact Heather at HeatherABray41@gmail.com.
I will be on local radio (Editor’s note: KSGM 980 AM and 105.3 FM) next Monday promoting this new group and upcoming events at Hawn State Park.
School Teacher Helen (Hawn) lived the American Dream. She owned a special part of the wild Missouri Ozarks, riding horseback on weekends around what is now Hawn State Park, today. She left her land to the state with the idea that future generations would respect it and protect it. Now, Helen’s property is one of the most popular parks in the entire Midwest. The value of the land is priceless and supports the value of land in the surrounding scenic area high in biodiversity and quality of life. Every time I visit Hawn State Park and other wonders of nature like nearby Hickory Canyons, I think of Helen. I hope we don’t let her down.
I invite you to join our new Facebook group, attend the events, and spread the word. Together, we only have a few weeks to SAVE HAWN!.
