  • Looking at projections for kindergarten this upcoming school year https://go.boarddocs.com/mo/stegen/Board.nsf/files/CD7JVQ4EEEC3/$file/Kindergarten%20Screening%20Totals.pdf , Ste. Genevieve Elementary could have about 93 students, and Bloomsdale Elementary could have about 58 students. Administration will monitor the number of incoming kindergarten students at Bloomsdale Elementary, and if that number continues to grow, another kindergarten teacher might need to be considered for that building.

Summer School. The Board approved Summer School for 2022 https://go.boarddocs.com/mo/stegen/Board.nsf/files/CD6PGW645236/$file/Summer%20School%202022.pdf The classes that will be offered this summer include: Algebra I, Applied Math II and III, English I – IV, and Personal Finance.

This is the first year that Personal Finance will be offered over the summer to allow students to earn that credit outside of the school year and open some space in their schedules. This course is a half credit, and will be offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors. The schedule includes 60 hours both semesters. First semester will be from June 1 – June 17, and second semester will be from June 20 – July 7.

Certification of Municipal Election Results by County Clerk – Prop SG. The Board of Education approved the official results of the April 5, 2022 General Municipal Election https://go.boarddocs.com/mo/stegen/Board.nsf/files/CDGLZB563BB9/$file/Certification%20of%20Election%20-%20Prop%20SG%20Results%20April%205%2C%202022.pdf where voters in the Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District approved Proposition SG, a no-tax rate increase $20 million bond referendum, with 70.51 percent support, or 1,725 yes votes, and 721 no votes.

The purpose of this bond issue is to help fund facility needs identified through the district’s long-range Facilities Plan. The immediate priorities identified by the Facilities Committee, made up of more than 100 members, include the development of an Early Childhood Center, as well as accessibility, safety and security, and activities renovations and additions throughout the district. More information can be found at https://bit.ly/PropSG

The district is incredibly grateful to our community for supporting this impactful bond issue. While the scope of this bond issue is extensive and would address needs districtwide, these improvements are necessary, timely, and will serve our students, families, and community well.

Board President David Bova pointed out that there was a 20 percent voter turnout in the April 5, 2022 election, an increase from the 13.2% voter turnout in the 2015 election where Prop 1 was on the ballot. He shared that this was a strong turnout, and that the Board of Education is very appreciative of the community’s support on Prop SG.

NEW BUSINESS

Extension of Pupil Transportation Agreement. The Board approved the extension of the Pupil Transportation Agreement with Fallert Bus Service https://go.boarddocs.com/mo/stegen/Board.nsf/files/CDFTFY73B010/$file/03152022%20Agreed%20Upon%20Terms%20-%205%20Yr%20Contract.pdf This agreement is a five-year contract, and shall commence July 1, 2022 and shall continue through June 30, 2027. Dr. Flieg shared that Fallert Bus Service has served our school district for a long time, the company hires local bus drivers, and we look forward to continuing to work with them.”

Addition of Special Education Teacher.

The Board approved the addition of a Special Education Teacher https://go.boarddocs.com/mo/stegen/Board.nsf/files/CDEQSX6AC5E7/$file/SGE%20Positions%20FY23.pdf at Ste. Genevieve Elementary for the 2022-23 school year.

“Especially at the elementary level, we are seeing more and more need in the area of special education,” Dr. Flieg said. “I don’t think most people understand the impact the pandemic has had on our children as a whole, whether they are elementary, middle school, high school, or early childhood.”

We currently have six incoming kindergarten students who need more specialized instruction and will require a self-contained classroom. In order to meet all of the low incidence student needs, we will need the additional teacher.

Addition of Speech Language Pathologist. The Board approved the addition of a Speech Language Pathologist https://go.boarddocs.com/mo/stegen/Board.nsf/files/CDGL2M5475CD/$file/Addition%20of%20SLP%20Position%20-%20FY23.pdf for the District for the 2022-23 school year. The district currently has three SLPs (Speech Language Pathologists). In looking at the data and considering the students’ needs and disabilities we have coming into Kindergarten, the SLP services provided on the Bloomsdale and Ste. Genevieve campuses next school year will have to increase because of the need to provide more one-on-one services due to increased severity of the disability.

UPCOMING MEETINGS
