STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve County Library and Ste. Genevieve Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp No. 326 will holding a Civil War event at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be displays outside the Community Center where visitors can learn about Ste. Genevieve’s role in the War, the life of Civil War soldiers and their equipment as well as view Civil War related items. Children will be taught marching drills similar to those that the soldiers used.
A presentation on genealogical resources available in Ste. Genevieve County that people can use to identify if their ancestors fought in the war will be given inside the library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Local genealogists Becky Millinger and Bob Mueller will be on hand both before and after the presentation to answer questions and to discuss the more than 800 names of Ste. Genevieve residents that were soldiers on both side of the conflict.
