STE. GENEVIEVE – Playwright Kristen Chibitty, who wrote the musical play about John James Audubon that will premiere in Ste. Genevieve April 23-24, says she is “most excited to see John James Audubon come to life in front of a live audience.”
“I hope the audience will find ‘Hope is a Shy Bird’ to be an enjoyable, memorable experience that will stay with them,” she says. “It was Audubon’s fondest desire to leave an enduring legacy.”
Chibitty adds she also hopes the play will “help in a small way to make Audubon’s dream come true, especially for those who don’t know anything about this remarkable man.”
Chibitty said she is grateful for the actors and crew involved in the production. “They are a phenomenal cast, so much fun, and so inspiring,” she said. “They are a blessing. I hope everyone considers supporting them by coming to see the play.”
Carolyn Bach, president of the Sainte Genevieve Art Guild which is sponsoring the play with help from the Arts and Education Council, agrees.
“We think the whole weekend honoring John James Audubon and his legacy offers such a wide variety of activities–art, history, birds and this charming, wonderful play–that it will be a memorable experience for everyone.”
Performances are Saturday April 23 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 24 at 4 p.m. at the Valle High School gymnasium at 40 N. 4th Street.
