– Ste. Genevieve High School students recently gained a firsthand look at the equipment, planning and careers involved in preparing land for a new residential development. On Sept. 24, two groups of SGHS students visited the site of a new McBride Homes subdivision along Progress Parkway, where Bloomsdale Excavating is completing the site work.

Students learned about the groundwork involved in a large-scale development project and explored careers in excavation, heavy equipment operation, engineering, surveying and blueprint reading. They also got an up-close look at a variety of heavy equipment, including the opportunity to sit in the operator seats and learn how the machinery works. The visit helped students connect what they are learning in school with career opportunities available in their own community.

Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District would like to thank Bloomsdale Excavating for providing this hands-on learning experience, with special thanks to Chuck Bauman and Nolan Weiler for sharing their time and expertise with our students.
SGHS hopes to return as the development progresses, giving students an opportunity to see future phases of the project and continue learning from professionals in the field.
