CHICAGO — The Illinois Municipal League (IML) elected new officers to lead the association at its Annual Business Meeting, which was held on Saturday, September 19, as a part of the 113th IML Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
IML membership unanimously elected Mayor John C. Lewis, City of Mount Vernon, to serve a one-year term as President of the statewide association. Lewis has served on the IML Board of Directors as a Vice President since 2019. He is the first IML President whose father also served as president of the organization.
“Strong communities depend on strong local leadership, and I have seen firsthand what can be accomplished when municipal officials work together,” said Lewis. “As President of the Illinois Municipal League, I look forward to bringing that same approach statewide, strengthening the voice of Illinois municipalities and ensuring local leaders have a strong partner in IML.”
Also elected during the IML Annual Business Meeting were Mayor Rita Ali, City of Peoria, as First Vice President, and Mayor Mark Kownick, Village of Cary, as Second Vice President.
