As Ste. Genevieve celebrates its German heritage during Oktoberfest, a special presentation will explore the people, places and traditions that helped shape the community.
Local historian Bob Mueller will present “Ste. Genevieve’s German Legacy: People, Places, and Traditions” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Orris Theatre. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Mueller will take a look at the German immigrants who came to Ste. Genevieve and the reasons they chose the community as their home. The program will explore the lasting influence of German heritage on local life, including traditional foods, architecture, Christmas traditions, music, family villages and even some of the nicknames that have become part of Ste. Genevieve’s history.
The presentation offers an opportunity to learn more about the German traditions and cultural influences that remain part of Ste. Genevieve today.
