Treasurer Vivek Malek Announces Record-Breaking Year at Unclaimed Property Auction

JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Today the Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek announced the results of the 2026 Missouri Unclaimed Property Auction. This year’s auction was held August 27-28 in Columbia, Missouri. The event resulted in a major achievement, breaking the previous sales record of $319,712 with this year’s total of $674,342.

“The Unclaimed Property auction exceeded all expectations this year, showing the increasing public interest in the Unclaimed Property program,” said Treasurer Malek. “Thank you to everyone who attended the auction and a special thank you to my dedicated staff, who are the reason this event was such an overwhelming success.”

The team at the Missouri State Treasurer’s Office catalogs items from approximately 1,000 safe deposit boxes annually. These boxes are turned over to the office from banking institutions across the state after five years of inactivity. The money received for each item sold during the auction is retained by the Treasurer’s Office and may be claimed by the rightful owner or their heir at any time through the Unclaimed Property program.
