“Join us to learn more about how to create a waystation and the migration of monarch butterflies before they quietly flutter away to their winter hibernaculum in Mexico,” said Naturalist Jessie Ballard. A hibernaculum comes from the Latin verb “hibernare,” which means “to pass the winter.”
Monarch waystations provide resources for monarchs to reproduce and sustain their migration, according to MonarchWatch.org.
This is a livestreamed event only and is recommended for ages 10 years and older.
Staff at MDC facilities across the state are holding virtual and in-person programs throughout the year. A listing of these programs may be found at https://mdc.mo.gov/events.
