Perry County resident receives fake federal arrest warrant

The Perry County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware that a Perry County resident received the images below via text message. One of the images is a fake federal arrest warrant, which had the victims name, which has been redacted for privacy.

There are several indicators the document is fraudulent.

*The document does not identify the appropriate United States Federal District and State.

*It contains unusual language regarding a “Gag Order” and instructs the recipient not to disclose the warrant.

*It references bonding, warrant dismissal receipts, reimbursement, and “cash back” procedures that are not part of a legitimate federal arrest warrant.

*It demands or references payment of fees and percentages associated with alleged violations.

*It contains other information and formatting inconsistent with an authentic federal arrest warrant.

*Most importantly, a federal court will not text you a copy of an arrest warrant and then instruct you to make payments to avoid arrest.

Most importantly, a federal court will not send an arrest warrant to an individual by text message.

This appears to be an attempt to deceive or scam individuals by making them believe they have an active federal arrest warrant.

If you receive a message containing a document or notice that you believe may be a federal arrest warrant, do not provide personal information, send money, or follow instructions contained in the message. Contact your local law enforcement agency directly to verify the information.
