WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. – Members of the Missouri Wing of Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, are assisting the American Red Cross with damage assessments in several southern Missouri counties affected by recent extensive flooding.
CAP ground teams are evaluating areas in Crawford, St. Francois, and Washington Counties.
“Whether it is a missing person, overdue aircraft, or natural disasters such as the current flooding, our members train on a regular basis to be ready when the call comes,” said Maj. Steve Vogt, mission incident commander. “Supporting the Red Cross provides our all-volunteer members an outstanding opportunity to give back to their communities in need.”
Acting as a Total Force partner and official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol helps First Air Force rapidly respond to nonmilitary threats domestically in a Defense Support of Civil Authorities capacity to save lives, relieve suffering, prevent property damage, and provide humanitarian assistance.
